In heavy industry, blast furnaces are used for melting metal. But sometimes you want to melt something yourself to make your own metal product.

Creating a hearth for home melting is not so difficult. That's just for the blower to use a household hair dryer is not at all profitable (it will burn after 30 minutes). But you can easily get by with the old engine from the washing machine, the impeller from the old vacuum cleaner and pieces of plywood.

To begin, let's mark the circumference of our "hair dryer" on plywood, circling the impeller and increasing the size by one centimeter. We drill a hole in the center. And cut two identical pieces.

The main stages of work

In one of the plywood blanks, we make a hole in the center. It should be such that the impeller blades are not visible and do not stick out. We connect both blanks with a temporary coupler (carnations). We grind it to the same shape on a grinding machine.

To give volume to our "hair dryer", we begin to assemble its walls from equal pieces of plywood and superglue. Having assembled the walls, we install the form on the engine, pulling the form and the engine with studs.

We install the impeller on the shaft and fix everything with nuts through washers. We cover with the top cover and glue the whole body. Putty on wood we cover all uneven edges, to give a more aesthetic shape. We grind all the irregularities and get a beautiful “hair dryer” case.

The engine stand can be made from ordinary pieces of metal and studs. We connect our "hair dryer" to the tube through a small pipe blowing a hearth and enjoy the process. A detailed visualization of the process can be seen in the video below.
