The strength and hardness of wood is several times less than that of metals, even as soft as aluminum. Therefore, when working with wood, especially at the final stages of its processing, you should be especially careful.
A dent can occur from careless handling of a heavy tool (hammer, ax, chisel, etc.) when processing wooden surfaces. Dropping out of their hands, they will certainly leave a mark on the tree.

Finished products (a table, armrests of a chair, a door, a sideboard surface, a wooden floor) may also suffer for one reason or another during their operation or the next restoration repair.
The dents themselves can be small, but on the surface of exquisite furniture, especially with directional lighting, they will make an unpleasant impression and spoil the overall perception of the product.
Is it possible to change a completely expensive thing because of such a small defect? Fortunately, there are all sorts of ways to help get rid of this small damage. Below we consider one of them, which does not require much time, effort and material costs.

Will need

At our disposal should be:
  • iron;
  • thin cloth;
  • some water.

The process of removing dents from a tree

It is completely simple and obvious. During its implementation, no preparatory work is required, except for heating the iron by connecting it to an electrical outlet and a set of half a glass of tap water.
So, we proceed:
1. Pour a small amount of water on the surface of the dent, which we need to eliminate. It is enough that the water covers the deepening of the defect, but usually due to the forces of surface tension, it will rise above the dent in the form of a small tubercle.

2. We cover a section of a wooden surface with a dent in a piece of fabric in one or two layers, depending on its thickness, and wait a few seconds so that the water is completely absorbed into the fabric.

3. Apply a well-heated iron to the fabric and hold it in one place for several seconds. Then for some time we make circular motions with an iron in the area of the dent, from time to time tearing it from the fabric so as not to burn it.

In one pass, the dent may not completely go away, but it will noticeably decrease.

4. We continue to manipulate with the iron until the fabric becomes almost dry.
5. After that we remove the fabric and make sure that the dent has disappeared. This happened due to the fact that damaged and deformed wood fibers absorbed hot water and, under its influence, expanded and acquired the previous volume (shape).

In the end, in order to bring the surface to full recovery, you can walk with fine sandpaper several times over the entire surface.
