Often for the manufacture of knives are used billets of red-hot steel. And the question is how to drill such a blank at home.

In general, there are many ways to drill hot steel. Some use acid for this to soften the metal at the drilling site.

Others make metal tempering in the right place using welding. Under the influence of high temperature, the steel at the drilling site becomes softer.

But in this review we will talk about one of the most simple, affordable and effective ways to drill hot steel. To do this, you need a winning pen drill.

The main stages of work

The first step is to grind the drill itself. This can be done on the diamond wheel - a regular emery wheel is not suitable for this purpose.

Next, we make markings on the workpiece, clamp it in a vise and drill holes on a drilling machine. Previously, the drilling site itself can be greased with WD-40 or with oil - the grease will clean the steel from overheating during the drilling process.

That, in fact, is the whole way. Try it, and you will surely succeed. Details on how to drill a billet from hardened steel, you can see in this video.
