Standard factory models of G-clamps are practical to use, but have size limitations. For example, they will not be able to fix wooden or metal workpieces that are located in the middle of the workbench - the clamps simply will not reach them. However, this problem can be solved if the design of the clamp is slightly modified.

The main stages of work

To make a long clamp for a G-shaped clamp, two wooden blocks with a thickness of approximately 35-40 mm will be required. We attach them to the metal frame, make markings, punch and drill two through holes on the drilling machine or using an electric drill. Then, in the center of the bars at a distance of 4 cm from the edge, drill one hole and cut the thread with a tap.

Next, we make one longitudinal groove in wooden blocks on a circular saw, after which we connect them with clamps using bolts and nuts. At the edges of the clamps we glue the stops that will be in contact with the clamped parts, fasten them for reliability with screws, and additionally we make rubber pads.

To summarize

After grinding and processing the wooden clamps with mineral oil, the elongated G-shaped clamp is ready for use. The length of the clamps is determined individually, depending on the specific tasks. Now you can easily fix workpieces that a standard clamp does not reach.
