Cutting tin or galvanized sheets of metal at home using conventional manual scissors is a rather laborious and tedious process. And the quality of cutting in this case most often leaves much to be desired, you have to additionally process uneven edges with a file.

Therefore, if you need to cut a large amount of sheet metal, it’s better to do it yourself with table lever scissors - with this device you can not only cut tin, stainless steel or galvanized steel, but also other materials (for example, wire and aluminum plates).

The design of homemade lever scissors is quite simple - the cutting of sheet metal occurs due to pressure on the lever. The cutting process of the material is carried out using two knives with a straight blade. One knife is fixed motionless on a metal bed, the other is driven by a lever (cuts from top to bottom).

The main stages of work

For this homemade product, an I-beam will be required, which will serve as a bed (you can use two angles welded together), a steel plate, a bolt with a nut, two pieces of a profile pipe and a spring.

In the I-beam, it is necessary to drill holes for installation on the desktop, and one for fixing the plate. We make a grinder a one-sided cutting edge in the upper part of the I-beam and in the lower part of the plate, which is used as a movable knife. Then we connect the two parts together with a bolt and nut.

From two pieces of the profile pipe we make a lever, and then we fix the spring to quickly return the knife to its original position. The handle is attached to the plate by welding. At the last stage of the work, homemade lever scissors for cutting sheet metal need to be painted.
