In this review, the author demonstrates an unusual technology for manufacturing an hatchet - from a piece of a round thick-walled pipe. Hot forging of the workpiece is also used. The result is not quite unusual, but at the same time - an original hatchet.

First of all, the master applies a paper ax template to a piece of pipe and draws a marker around the contours. Then clamps the pipe in a vice and cuts the workpiece with a grinder. At this stage, it's just a piece of thick-walled pipe - no more.

Then the master heats the workpiece red hot and gives it the necessary shape on the anvil with a heavy hammer. The process is not fast, so you need to be patient. This field can go to the next stages of work.

The process of making a homemade ax from a pipe

After the workpiece is aligned, the master cleans the surface with a grinder and glues a paper template on top. Then it cuts off all unnecessary, securely holding the workpiece in a vice. In this case, it is convenient to use a small angle grinder.

Then, with the help of a grinder, the descents of the ax blade are formed, and on the belt grinder the master grinds. Three holes must be drilled in the handle. Next, you need to follow the standard procedure for hardening and tempering the ax.

At the last stage of the work, the master makes the final sharpening of the blade, and also cuts the handles out of wood, and then glues them to the metal handle. The finished pen is varnished.

Despite the fact that such an hatchet easily copes with small firewood, it is better to use it in the kitchen. For details on how to make a forged hatchet from a piece of a thick-walled pipe, see the video on the site.
