When sharpening the chisels, it is extremely important to maintain the correct sharpening angle, since the cutting properties of the tool directly depend on this. Usually sharpening the edge of the blade is performed at an angle of 17-27 degrees. Non-standard tools sometimes come across.

Manually correctly sharpening a chisel does not always work perfectly, so it’s more advisable to use a simple "cart", which allows you to adjust the angle of sharpening. The device reliably fixes the blade at a given angle, so any deviations are completely eliminated.

How to make a sharpening trolley

First of all, it is necessary to make a "landing nest" for a steel roller. To do this, we take a strip of metal of suitable sizes, cut it off in length, slightly round off the edges, and then bend them at a right angle. In the resulting "ears" we drill holes, and poke a rod with a roller. The edges of the rod must be riveted.

Then we cut two more blanks from a metal strip, clamp them in a vise and drill two holes. We weld one plate from the bottom of the roller mount, and the second we fasten using bolts with wing nuts. The result is a simple and very convenient tool for precise sharpening of chisels.

We insert a chisel between two jaws, set the desired angle of sharpening and tighten the nuts. As an abrasive surface for sharpening, you can use a diamond backing or ordinary sandpaper. The detailed manufacturing process of this device can be seen in the video on the website.
