Butt welding of profile pipes

When at home it is necessary to connect two segments of the profile by welding at right angles to each other, for a more accurate and reliable connection, the edges of the profile pipes are pre-cut with a grinder or with a band saw at an angle of 45 degrees.

However, there are situations when it is not possible to cut the profile at an angle - in this case, you have to weld the profile butt. This method can also be used, the only thing that bothers is the open end hole in one of the sections of the profile pipe. It does not look very beautiful. How to fix it?

Butt weld profile beautifully

First of all, we set a right angle (if necessary, you can use a magnetic square) and fix the profile pipes 40x20 mm tacks. We cut the steel square 14x14 mm in size and install it inside the hole, after which we also fix it with tacks.

First, we completely boil the horizontal upper seam of the plug, and then go to the vertical seams. And there are two ways how to cook them - either from bottom to top with a gap, or from top to bottom without a gap. Last of all, we weld a horizontal seam in the lower part of the plug without tearing.

For high-quality welding of profile pipes (without burn through and lack of penetration), it is best to use electrodes with a rutile coating with a diameter of 3 mm. We set the welding current within 70A. For a detailed process of welding two sections of profile pipes end-to-end at an angle of 90 degrees, see this video.
