A wheel chock (“shoe”) is used when repairing and before lifting a car with a jack, and also when you need to keep the vehicle on a slope. This simple device should be in every trunk and garage.

And if you have not bought a wheeled “shoe” yet, you can make it yourself from improvised materials. In this review we will tell and show how to make a wheel chock for a folding car wheel.

From the basic materials for the manufacture of a home-made metal “shoe”, it will be necessary to prepare three pieces of a steel plate of the same width (10, 20 and 30 cm long), a piece of rectangular metal and two loops.

The main stages of work

A piece of rectangular metal should be welded to a workpiece 30 cm long, which will act as a stop for the vertical plate. The two remaining plates are interconnected by a loop.

The second loop is welded approximately in the middle of the “shoe” base, and joins with a steel plate 20 cm long. Then it will be necessary to clean the welding spots with a grinder with a stripping disk, and then paint it with spray paint from a spray can.

The result is a compact metal wheel chock folding for the car wheel, which does not take up much space in the trunk.

On the surface of the inclined plate, it is desirable to make grooves or notches for better adhesion to the tire.
