Grinding and polishing machine from an old engine

For any serious machine tools, a weak electric motor (about 1,500 rpm) is unlikely to work. However, this does not mean that it cannot be attached anywhere. The old engine will make an excellent grinding and polishing machine for processing small parts.

One of the options for using this engine is the manufacture of a machine in a workshop or garage under a Velcro nozzle (for grinding wheels). But first, it will be necessary to grind the adapter onto the motor shaft from the hexagonal bar.

On a lathe, we grind a part of the desired shape from the hexagon. And then we cut the external thread. Next, we drill a hole in the center for the diameter of the thread on the motor shaft, and cut the internal thread with a tap.

The main stages of work

From a piece of plywood 20 mm thick we make the base - a bed for the future machine. If desired, you can also make some kind of box. First you need to determine the size of the base and make a markup. Then, using a jigsaw, we cut out the bed on which we install the engine.

At the next stage, we fasten the walls. Small through holes must be drilled in the side plywood - for normal air circulation inside the case. In the front wall you need to make a large hole under the motor shaft. Lastly, screw the lid.

Then we install a makeshift adapter on the motor shaft, onto which we attach the nozzle. Now you can start grinding small parts. You can watch the entire assembly process of the grinding and polishing machine from the old engine in the video on the website.
