"Home" drilling machine from an old window

If you have an old window lifter from a car lying around (well, or there’s a new one that you don’t need), you will get a simple “home” version of a drilling machine from it. Of course, such an assembly will not give odds to factory models. But if you need a drill for small jobs, then he will cope with this task.

In addition to the power window, you will also need a 12V power supply (for example, from a stationary computer), a motor with a gearbox from a screwdriver, wooden bars and metal tubes (you can use it from an old stroller).

The first thing we cut off is two pieces of a metal tube. It must first be flattened. Then in each tube we drill two holes. But not through, but only in one wall. Also cut off two more long round tubes.

The manufacturing process of a simple drilling machine

We put plastic sleeves on long tubes. Then on the edges of the tubes we fasten the "shorties" into which the holes had previously been drilled. We connect everything by welding. The weld joints must be cleaned with a grinder.

Then from improvised materials we make a simple carriage, which must be fixed on the bushings. Since the bushings themselves are plastic, they must be "reinforced." To do this, they will need to be pressed into pieces of steel pipe.

We connect together four wooden bars of 150x50 mm into a rectangular box. Inside this frame we place the drive of the drilling machine - a motor with a gearbox from a screwdriver. As a power source, we use a PSU from a computer at 12V.

At the last stage, it remains only to install the window mechanism. For details on how to make a "home" version of the drilling machine, see the video on our website.
