An original and powerful manual cleaver for chopping firewood, which you can make yourself, is useful in the country or in a private house. It will help to cope with the hardest species of wood.

The cleaver itself is a simple pointed triangle welded from a thick metal plate. Despite the unusual design, he copes with his task well. And you don’t need to wave your arms, as is the case with an ordinary cleaver.

The top of the triangular plate is directed down, and a strong rod is welded to its upper part. A thick-walled pipe with handles is mounted on the rod itself. This pipe also needs to be beaten on top of the cleaver so that the tip of the triangle chopped wood.

The main stages of work

To make this homemade product, it will be necessary to cut 3 pieces of strip (2 long and 1 short). The lower ends of two long workpieces must be sharpened so that when they are welded, the sharp part is obtained.

A short piece is welded on top that connects the triangle. A rod with a welded restrictive sleeve is welded to this piece in the center. A pipe with handles is inserted between the triangle and the limiter itself. The design resembles a reverse hammer. Only the pipe in this case works in the forward rather than the reverse direction.

The convenience of such a device is that for the successful operation of the cleaver it is not necessary to use a hammer to split a thick log. It is enough just to take it from the side by the handles, put it on a log and, lifting the pipe, force it down.

Under its weight and when exposed to a blow, the device easily splits even thick chocks, and easily copes with small logs. Working with such a homemade product takes less time than with an ax or a traditional cleaver.
