Using a grinder, you can not only make slots in the forward direction, but also cut round holes in the metal. The idea itself seems wild, because the Bulgarian cuts in straight lines, but there is one option of a device that will help cut a circle even in thick metal.

The idea is to build a homemade compass. You will need to take a long piece of iron pipe and two short ones. The step width itself will be determined long, in other words, the radius. Whereas 2 short segments will go to fasten the compass to the grinder.

After all the necessary blanks for the future compass are made, they should be joined by welding. The bolt will go like a clamp, it will be an adjustment setting.

After welding, two main parts are obtained, on one device with a clamp, the other part is the compass itself, which acts as the radius of the circle.

The main stages of work

The compass step is made of the length that is currently required for work; you can change it by setting the compass to the desired distance. Unscrew the bolt, pull out part of the pipe, clamp the bolt and continue working with the grinder to create a circle of iron of a new diameter.

Conclusion: the device is very convenient to use. It is easy to make, only 15 minutes and the compass is ready. The device serves forever. Can’t break. The grinder walks in a circle smoothly, does not hang from side to side. The circles themselves are free of burrs, the cut is beautiful and even.

Important: when working with a grinder, it is better to make movements first on yourself, so that sparks do not block the viewing path of the line along which the circle is drawn. Then the saw goes along the intended groove. See the video on the site for more details.
