Surely, in almost every garage there is a piece of spring, or even a whole. But not every master is able to think of how to use it wisely. In principle, there are a lot of options for using this material.
In this homemade product, we will tell you how, using an old rusty spring and straight arms, you can make a universal tool for working in a summer cottage, as well as for selecting grooves in wooden blocks.
For this homemade product you will need a car spring, a piece of pipe, a wooden handle, welding machine, angle grinder (grinder) and personal protective equipment that must be used in the process.
The main stages of work
From the spring we cut off the plate of the length we need and weld the tube to it. Pre-cut the tube to the desired angle of entry into the tree (soil). We weld two parts together.
So that a homemade chopper does not break under excessive load or when hit on stones, it will need to be hardened. In the gas or coal furnace we bring the edge of our workpiece to the desired color of the metal and lower it into oil.
Next, we proceed to create a cutting edge. Using angle grinders, we set the angle of sharpening and bring it to a final sharpness using hand stones (or emery circles).
We make the handle from the old handle. It's simple: cut the edge of the handle under the diameter of the tube and drive it with a mallet. In an arbitrary part of the tube, make a hole and screw in a screw. For a more aesthetic look, you can cover the handle with a stain and the blade with a primer for metal.
You can consider the option of horizontally positioning the cutting surface. To do this, we carry out the same procedure, only expanding a piece of spring horizontally and welding the plate perpendicular to it.
And then all the same procedures as described above. Detailed production can be seen in this video.
