And although there is nothing complicated in gluing joinery furniture boards, the knowledge of some subtleties will not hinder the beginners. In this review, we will talk in detail about gluing boards in the home workshop.

The first step is to sort the blanks - that is, select the boards according to the nature of the cut: tangential or radial. If the furniture panels are facing the wall, then the sorting step can be skipped.

Please note that it is better to use boards with a width of not more than 100 mm. Too wide a board for gluing the shield is not suitable, because during operation it can warp. If only a wide board is at hand, then it is better to immediately cut it into narrower workpieces.

The main stages of work

At the next stage, you will need to look at the location of the annual rings so that they are not in the same direction - it is recommended to alternate them.

Further, if there is no thicknesser, you need to make even planes on the two edges of the boards. It is imperative that the edges of the mating boards are strictly parallel to each other.

If there is even a slight bevel on any of the glued edges, then after gluing the “hump” on the furniture board may “grow”, due to the fact that the plot can turn at any angle.

We arrange the plots in such a way that the annual rings alternate in different directions. Why this is necessary, it was written above. Also, blanks must be numbered so as not to confuse them in the process of gluing the furniture board.

Bonding Features

If the carpentry wooden board that needs to be glued does not bear any load, then you can glue the boards on a smooth fugue. This is the easiest and fastest option.

In all other cases (if any load is planned), the panels are glued using any additional “reinforcing” elements. It can be wooden dowels or lamellas (both short and along the entire length of the board).

Also, when gluing the furniture board, you can use special cutters, which are also called "microchip". For more information about this method of gluing furniture panels, see the video on our website.
