Ordinary household scissors lose their sharpness over time, may wrinkle paper or not cope with the fabric. You can get them in shape very quickly.
Few people know that the easiest way is the most effective here. Scissors cannot be sharpened with knife sharpeners, after which they can only be thrown away.
In this review, the author shows how to correctly restore the sharpness of the scissors using a conventional grindstone.
The main stages of work
First, make sure that the scissor mount is not loose. Rivets can simply be knocked out with a hammer, putting the bottom on a metal bar.
On more expensive household scissors, the mount is usually in the form of a screw. It is enough just to tighten it with a screwdriver.
In order not to spoil the scissors, you need to remember a few simple rules:
- Only the cutting edge needs to be sharpened, but in no case is the blade on the inside;
- You can only move away from the sharp edge;
- The entire cutting edge should be in full contact with the grindstone.
The metal of the scissors is quite soft, usually no more than ten stone passes are required. We do not need sharpening to razor sharpness.
So the result is best checked with a piece of paper. This will also help remove the burrs that have formed on the edge of the scissors.
Sharpening some scissors takes no more than two minutes. And the result is much better and more durable than using special sharpeners.
