If you need to drill a large diameter hole in a wooden blank, but there is no suitable crown at hand, then you can do it yourself. This device is suitable for those jobs where high precision performance is not required.

As the main material, we will use a piece of steel water pipe of the desired diameter. You will also need the hinged part of the door hinge (also called the "fist"), a screw, a drill and a piece of a rectangular steel plate.

Pipe wood crown: work steps

We clamp the “fist” of the door hinge in a vice and drill a hole in it for the diameter of the drill, which will be used in a makeshift crown. It is also necessary to drill one hole on the side at a distance of about 1 cm from the edge of the part. We cut the thread under the screw M4, which will fix the drill.

Now we proceed directly to the manufacture of the crown itself. To do this, we take a piece of steel pipe of suitable diameter and with the help of a grinder we make cuts in the form of teeth. We weld a metal plate to the back of the crown. In the center of the plate, we drill a through hole for the guide drill.

The assembly principle is as follows: the drill is first inserted into the “fist” of the door hinge, and then fixed with a clamping screw. After that, the lower part of the drill is installed in the crown, and the upper - in the chuck of an electric drill or screwdriver. The process of making a homemade crown on a tree from a pipe can be seen in the video on the site.
