Such a homemade hammer ax in the kitchen is unlikely to be useful, but it can be used as a souvenir or decorative element of the interior, which can be hung on the wall or mounted on a stand. To cast an ax hammer from aluminum, you will need a model of gypsum or another material made in the form of two identical halves.

The whole process of work can be conditionally divided into three main stages: 1) preparation of the molding sand and the manufacture of formwork from wooden boards or metal plates; 2) pouring the prepared form with molten aluminum; 3) machining of the cast product.

Preparatory work

On a flat surface, install the lower part of the formwork (flask), which is a rectangular box without a bottom. First you need to lay a dense oilcloth. Then the first half of the hammer ax model is laid and filled with a pre-prepared molding sand. It is made from sifted earth (silica) or sand mixed with clay.

The prepared sand is laid in layers and rammed with a wooden mortar or other improvised device. Then the surface is gently leveled with a rail and the bottom of plywood or OSB is screwed to the flask. After this, the box must be turned over and the second half of the model is glued using double-sided tape.

Next, the upper part of the formwork is installed and covered with a sieved molding sand. After this, the formwork is carefully disassembled, and the model is removed. Then the boxes with the form are installed one on top of the other, and with the help of the tube two holes are made - the gate and the pressure.

Pouring metal into a mold

Aluminum scrap prepared and cleaned of dirt is melted in a melting furnace, after which slag is removed from the surface, and the molten mass is poured into the gate. When the metal cools, you can begin to machining the finished product. For a detailed process on how to make a kitchen hammer ax from aluminum, see the video on the website.
