The ordinary point laser module, which can be ordered online at Aliexpress or bought at a radio electronics store, can easily be converted into a compact mini level for carpentry and locksmithing. Such a home-made device is definitely useful in the home workshop when performing markup. At the same time, it will be cheaper than store counterparts.

The main stages of work

First you need to solder the contacts of the laser module to the contacts of the battery pack, which is designed for standard finger-type batteries. The connection points of the wires are insulated using two pieces of heat shrink tube or conventional tape.

The laser module has a focal length within 9 cm - to halve it, you need to turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise by 1-2 turns. Note that when the focus is shifted, the point becomes elliptical. To convert a point laser into a linear laser (for a mini level), you will need a glass hollow tube with a diameter of about 3 mm.

The body can be made of a piece of aluminum square profile 10x10 mm, in which using an M3 drill you need to drill three holes: two through holes for inserting a glass rod and one for fixing the laser module. Then you need to cut a piece of 10 mm long from the glass bulb. This can be done with a diamond file.

At the last stage, you need to assemble all the components together. First, a glass tube is installed and fixed with epoxy glue on the sides. Then, the laser module itself is inserted into the case and pressed against the plastic screw M3.
