A simple stationery knife, which is used to cut sheets of drywall, thick paper, as well as other building materials, can be bought at any hypermarket or hardware store, and it costs a penny.

But in some situations, it may not be at hand (for example, it broke), and the hardware store is not working or is far away. In this case, a simple homemade work out of a profile pipe 25X40 mm (you can also use a UD guide profile for drywall).

The main stages of work

First of all, we mark the profile pipe and with the help of a grinder we cut off the workpiece of the desired shape along the drawn line. Profile dimensions 25x40 mm were not chosen by chance - just the width of the clerical knife blade.

The place of the cut needs to be polished, and then we bend the edges of the workpiece inward using a hammer. Thus, we get guides for the clerical knife blade, which do not allow it to pop out.

Then you need to drill two holes and make a longitudinal slot with a grinder so that you can fix the blade in the desired position. A bolt-wing with a nut acts as a retainer. The result is a durable and reliable clerical knife, which, unlike the plastic case, will last much longer.

It is important that the steel of which the tool is made is of good quality. Therefore, the use of a bearing for this purpose is an excellent option.
