An unusual bonded knife (it is also called a "taganka") can be made with your own hands from a piece of a metal plate made of carbon steel. For example, a steel grade of 1050 or 1070 can be used.

The dagger knife has a very high holding reliability - it is often used for self-defense, since it is extremely difficult to get out of hand.

Despite the fact that a homemade version of a stick knife will cost less, it will practically not differ in quality from factory models. Externally, the product resembles a corkscrew, because it has a characteristic T-shape. And this is its main feature.

The main stages of work

First of all, it will be necessary to cut out a template of a future stick knife from thick paper (you can draw it by hand or download a finished version from the Internet). We apply a paper sample to a steel plate and circle with a marker. Next, we cut the steel billet with a grinder.

The cut edges of the workpiece are filed with metal to remove the burrs that have formed. We make the cutting edge on a belt grinding machine. The internal radii on the poke knife can be processed using a drill.

The next step is the hardening of the cutting part and the knife tempering. Then we drill through holes for overlays. The linings themselves can be made of wood or more solid material - for example, fiberglass.

Due to the wide edge of the blade in the form of a “scapula”, a bonded knife can also be used for household needs - in a private house or in a country house. You can watch the detailed process of manufacturing the original do-it-yourself knife in the video on our website.
