Mini septic tank for gardening

Due to the very dense development and the availability of the area cultivated for the harvest, the wastewater truck will not be able to drive up to any building in a summer cottage village, and waste products should always be drained somewhere. Everything is clear with the toilet: a wooden cabin with a pit below. But what about wastes such as water after washing, washing hands, or washing dishes? Pouring it into the garden is fraught with unpleasant consequences for the crop, because of the chemistry in it from detergents and powders. Even ordinary grass, resistant to all kinds of pollution, turns yellow and dies from it. Pouring the toilet is also not an option. So you need to dig a septic tank!

Will need

  • Two-liter barrel (metal or plastic).
  • Drill.
  • Any strong boards.
  • Nails
  • Hammer with a hacksaw.
  • Shovel.
  • Charcoal for barbecue (a pair of large bags).
  • Ruberoid.
  • Cover for a septic tank (in my version it is a door together with the front wall from a broken washing machine).

We make a septic tank

The septic tank will have a through bottom so that there is no need to pump it out. Earth is an excellent natural filter for liquid wastes with a small and not too hazardous chemical content, such as detergent or detergent solutions. This structure will not harm nature in any way; almost all of this chemistry will be filtered into coal and stored in one place, without poisoning the surrounding land and without spoiling your crop.

So, for starters, with a drill, we will drill more holes in the bottom of the barrel with a diameter of about ten millimeters. With a frequency of approximately two holes per square decimeter. The bigger, the better. If the barrel is plastic, then you can just burn it with a hot rod. Now the most time-consuming part of the job is digging a hole. The pit should be dug ten to fifteen centimeters deeper than the barrel, taking into account the carbon filter. After the pit is ready, pour the prepared coal to the bottom of the pit.

It is advisable to break it into smaller pieces before doing this. We install a barrel on coal.

We fill the sand with cracks between the barrel and the ground, carefully tamping it with a shank from a shovel, or something like that.

Next, you need to build a frame from the boards, which should be put on top of the barrel. Sheathe the frame with a board, cover it with roofing material and fix it with a stapler, leaving a hole for the cover. We will fasten the frame over the barrel to the boards driven into the ground by thick, soaked with antifungal oil composition.

If you, or your acquaintances, have a broken washing machine that you have not yet had to turn into scrap or send to a landfill, use a screwdriver, a grinder and safety glasses to separate the front wall with the door from it. It’s easy - the metal there is not very thick. Saw off everything that is excess and sticking out of it, drill holes around the perimeter of this wall, in ten centimeters increments, and pin (or screw) it into place of the cover. It will turn out a very convenient design.

No smell and, most importantly, no one will step in and fail with his foot. For lack of such a door, put together a board. Screw to it on one side a strip of thick rubber, which will replace the loops, and a latch on the other. That, in general, is all. You can use it. Also, such a septic tank is quite suitable for a bath or shower. This is quite enough for the summer season. And in order to avoid siltation of the septic tank bottom, do not pour anything there except for washing, dishwashing and other liquid chemical wastes.
